      🔍 Description:
The Sponge Crab is a nocturnal scavenger that camouflages itself with a live or artificial sponge on its back — held in place with specially adapted rear legs. This unique disguise not only provides protection from predators but also makes it one of the most bizarre and entertaining inverts to spot in a reef tank.

At night, it emerges to forage quietly along the sandbed and rockwork, eating leftover food and detritus. While generally peaceful, it’s best suited for tanks without delicate inverts or prized corals in reach of its powerful claws.

      Must HaveMust Have

      ✅ Why They're a Must-Have (for the right tank):

Incredible Camouflage: Carries and trims a sponge for stealth — one of nature’s weirdest inverts.

Efficient Nocturnal Scavenger: Helps clean up food and organics when other crew members are asleep.

Hardy & Low Maintenance: Tolerates a range of conditions and doesn’t require direct feeding.

Great Conversation Piece: Rare and fascinating — a favorite among oddball collectors.

      Notes for SuccessNotes for Success

      ⚠️ Notes for Success:

Use with Caution in Reefs: May knock over or climb on corals — not ideal for SPS-heavy tanks.

Avoid with Small Inverts: Can potentially grab slow-moving snails or shrimp.

Needs Hiding Spots: Provide caves or ledges for daytime shelter.

Feeds at Night: Best observed after lights-out — pair with red light for viewing.
