      🔍 Description:
The Pithos Crab is a small, compact crab with a rounded body and sturdy claws, often dark or mottled in color. Though not flashy, it’s a hardy and capable scavenger, frequently found hiding under rocks or foraging after dark. These crabs are known for their strong appetite and can help clean up excess waste and uneaten food.

However, caution is advised in reef tanks, as Pithos Crabs may opportunistically pick at snails, sessile inverts, or even corals if underfed.

      Must HaveMust Have

✅ Why They’re Worth Considering (for the right tank):

Tough Scavenger: Will eat what others miss — including decaying organics and fish waste.
Hardy & Low-Maintenance: Adapts to a wide range of salinities and tank conditions.
Great for FOWLR Tanks: Excellent in fish-only systems where other cleanup crew can’t survive.
Burrowing Behavior: Helps aerate substrate while hiding in the sand or under rockwork.

      ⚠️ Notes for Success:

Semi-Reef Safe: Use caution in coral-heavy tanks — may nip when food is scarce.

Supplemental Feeding: Keep well-fed with meaty foods to reduce predatory instincts.

Avoid Small or Passive Tankmates: Could harass snails or slow-moving shrimp.

Secure Aquascape: Strong claws may dislodge light rock or frag plugs while burrowing.
